This training covers sandstone provenance analysis and its subsurface applications. It works through petrographic modal analysis and tectonic discrimination, heavy mineral assemblages and varietal methods, detrital zircon geochronology, geochemical provenance methods, palaeodrainage and sediment routing reconstruction, provenance stratigraphy as a correlation tool, and the use of composition to predict reservoir quality.
