Reservoir Engineering & Well Testing in Excel The Hands-On Bootcamp
This hands-on bootcamp is designed for petroleum engineers who want to move beyond theory and actually build reservoir engineering and well testing models from scratch — in Microsoft Excel. Over two intensive days, participants work through 10 real-world projects covering the full spectrum of reservoir characterisation and well performance analysis. No black boxes, no third-party software — every model is built cell by cell, so you understand exactly what's happening under the hood. Exclusively available to PEA Members.
Workshop Objectives
By the end of this 2-day bootcamp, participants will be able to:
Build a Volumetric Reserves Estimator using deterministic and Monte Carlo methods (OOIP/OGIP)
Construct a Black Oil PVT Calculator using Standing & Vasquez-Beggs correlations
Develop a Material Balance Workbook with Havlena-Odeh straight-line analysis
Create a Decline Curve Analyzer with Arps fit using Excel Solver for EUR forecasting
Model Fractional Flow and Buckley-Leverett displacement using fw curves and Welge's method
Analyse Pressure Drawdown Tests using semilog analysis to extract k, skin, and investigation radius
Perform Horner Buildup Analysis including Horner plot and p* extraction
Interpret Pressure Derivative (Bourdet) plots on a log-log diagnostic for flow regime identification
Apply Type Curve Matching using the Gringarten-Bourdet overlay directly in Excel
Analyse Multi-Rate Tests using the superposition time function
About the Presenter
Senior Reservoir Engineer | 15+ Years of Industry Experience
Our instructor is a seasoned reservoir and production engineer with extensive hands-on experience in well test interpretation, reserves estimation, and integrated reservoir characterisation across conventional and unconventional assets. Having worked across major E&P operations in the Middle East and North Africa, he brings a rare ability to bridge rigorous engineering fundamentals with practical, field-ready workflows.
A strong advocate for Excel-based engineering, he believes that building models from first principles produces sharper, more confident engineers than any commercial software shortcut. His teaching style is direct, practical, and project-driven — every concept is immediately applied to a real working model.
This workshop is a reflection of his core philosophy: no black boxes, no shortcuts — just pure engineering.
Fundamentals of Well Intervention Operations
This workshop introduces the key concepts and techniques of well intervention operations used to maintain and enhance oil and gas well performance. Participants will learn about various intervention methods, equipment, and safety practices essential for effective well maintenance and production optimization.
