Well Barrier Philosophy & Verification (NORSOK D-010)
This course covers well barrier philosophy and verification to recognised standards. Participants study barrier definitions and envelopes, well barrier schematics and acceptance tables, barrier element requirements, verification methods and criteria, barrier states through well activities, monitoring, anomaly handling, documentation and the application of the standard across the well life cycle.
Description
Well barrier standards define what a barrier is, what elements may form one, how each must be verified and what must be documented. They give a common language for well integrity across operators, contractors and regulators, and they are referenced in regulation in several jurisdictions.
This course covers that framework and its application. It starts with barrier definitions, primary and secondary envelopes and the principle of two independent barriers, then covers well barrier schematics and acceptance tables, how they are constructed and what they must show. It covers barrier element requirements and the verification method and acceptance criteria defined for each, and barrier states through the activities a well undergoes: drilling, completion, production, intervention, suspension and abandonment. The course then covers monitoring requirements, anomaly handling and risk assessment when a barrier is impaired, documentation and traceability, and the practical application of the standard across the well life cycle.
